K.E.G. and you...
Submitted by Carrie Boss-Klenke
When I was asked to help write a blog around K.E.G. (Kindess, Empathy, Generosity) I did not have any clue what a blog was! However I do know what K.E.G. stands for and am very passionate to embrace the impact of it in both my work and personal life. I've come to realize that things that I find easy are not easy for everyone. In starting this blog we hope to reach out to others.
In brief the dictionary will tell you that
Kindness = is a behavior marked by ethical characteristics, a pleasant disposition, and concern and consideration for others. It is considered a virtue, and is recognized as a value in many cultures and religions.
Empathy = is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to place oneself in another's position
Generosity = (also called largess) is the virtue of being liberal in giving, often as gifts, and is regarded as a virtue by various world religions, and is often celebrated in cultural and religious ceremonies.
In everyday life there are many endless examples of how a person can practice and share K.E.G. Here are just a few tips:
Smiling
Eye contact
Acknowledgement
Being in the moment
Patience
Reaching out
Asking questions
Real listening
In closing for all you bloggers, and fossils like me who did not know what a blog was, the rewards of K.E.G. are
It is therapeutic
It keeps you productive
It's contagious (it takes effort not to smile back at a smile!)
It gives everyone a voice
IT'S FREE!!
